The Body in Balance & Harmony

Acupuncture has been used by the Chinese and many other cultures for thousands of years; it is a very effective therapy especially for fatigue, stress, and pain. Acupuncture can help with:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • PMS/Women's menstrual issues
  • Musculoskeletal pain, esp. lower back pain
  • Arthritis and other types of joint pain
  • Neck pain
  • Facial neuralgia
  • Low energy
  • Depression
  • Male sexual dysfunction
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Repetitive stress injuries
  • Stress
  • Insomnia
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Asthma
  • Auto injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Digestive complaints
  • High blood pressure
  • Common cold and flu

Acupuncture started out as acupressure; the Chinese discovered that applying physical pressure (usually with fingers, hands, or elbows) worked well on certain points of the body to release pain and the congestion of qi. Then they began using bone slivers to needle the points, freeing up hands and making the treatments more effective.

My Practice

I have been practicing acupuncture on Lopez Island for 8 years (12 years overall). My specialties are back pain, Chinese nutritional consultation, and repetitive stress injuries, such as office workers, musicians, and athletes might encounter.

On Lopez Island, I have had great success treating lumbar strain, liver failure, neck pain, low energy, stress from psychological and mental duress, and many other ailments with acupuncture that Western medicine has a difficult time addressing.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment.

Acupuncture

If you are new to acupuncture, and are worried about the needles, please let me know. I can adjust the number of needles used, and/or give a demonstration on needling technique.

If you are not comfortable with needling, there are other therapies in my scope of practice that are just as useful: moxibustion, cupping, Chinese Tui Na (therapeutic massage), the use of herbal patents, and the use of raw herbs are all effective modalities for many health issues.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion comes in a variety of forms, but essentially it is very good for warming the body. In the Pacific Northwest's damp, cold climate, moxibustion and its forms are great at addressing issues people have that stem from dampness and cold. Many forms of lower back pain, for example, respond very well to warming therapies which, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, stem from cold and damp.

Tui Na: Chinese Massage

TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practitioners still practice a form of therapeutic massage called Tui Na; I practice this myself and use it frequently, especially for back and some types of neck pain. it feels great and works very well in conjunction with the needles.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Part of the art of Chinese Medicine is the ability to adapt an existing herbal formula to a particular patient's disharmony. I strongly believe in using herbs as a healing mode, and the first level of herbs is simply food; this is the use of food in a healthy and supportive way for your body.On Lopez Island, acupuncture and herbs and healthy food go hand in hand.
